This is kind of dumb, but hey, it works perfect for a poll. And it's Super Bowl weekend!

While we're here,
I'm willing to bet on the Eagles, but y'all seem scared.

TiVo, I've told you like 3 times that I'll bet you. You name the stakes. Straight up, no points.

Really,
I remember asking three times, but I don't recall seeing an answer.

I think I deserve the points, what with the Patriots being a dynasty and all. But you or Xach can hit me up on the cell (571) 228-6517 and we can name the terms. $20, $50, whatever you're comfortable losing.

Everyone make sure to get their picks on record, with scores... I want to have the full gloating experience.

Ricky has Pats 31-13.
I like the Eagles ... 24-16.

I really think the angle that hasn't been talked about is how neither team in their dominant playoffs wins faced a defense that was as good as the one they'll face Sunday. Pittsburgh has some nice linebackers, even a nice front 7 ... but I was never impressed with their secondary, and Brady lit them up.

So I put the Pats down for a TD and 3 field goals. I think the Eagles might have some drives too that go far, and end up being FGs, or even misses ... but in a close fourth quarter, I think they'll prevail.

The Eagles match the Pats' intangibles (team concept, sacrifice, drive to win) and may have more talent across the board. The Eagles have speed like mad on D, so if Hollis Thomas and Trotter can hold their own up the middle against the run, the D could do well.

On the flip, if the Pats get to running real well, they'll play-action the Iggles to death.

It's not hard to see the Pats limiting the Eagles run game, but I've seen the Eagles win plenty of games they had no business winning judging by the run game.

Also, there's the McNabb factor. If the going gets rough, he can bust off a 30-yard run at a moment's notice. I'd bet we see one of these during the magical game-winning drive late.

We shall see. There's no doubt the Pats could win. I think this Super Bowl will be way better than like Bucs-Raiders or Giants-Ravens.

I agree with Peter King here:

Quote:
1. I think sometimes these players are asked so many questions that they end up out-thinking themselves. Take Rodney Harrison the other day. He was talking about the thing that just bores me to tears -- the perceived lack of respect for the Patriots: "Remember, we didn't have a chance against Indianapolis. We didn't have a chance against Pittsburgh, even though we were favored.'' Read that last sentence a couple of times. It might be the silliest quote out of the millions uttered this postseason.

Careful quoting Peter King, I'd hate to see you lose your new job already.

Yo,
I just name-dropped the site and Ricky's pick in my paper's annual dueling Super Bowl columns. Somehow, of two Eagles fans assigned to do these, I drew ... Guess who.

So anyway, if we get like 2 or 4 new visitors on Sunday, that might mean the entire readership of my paper saw the column and stopped by. And also Xach will kill me for early publicity.

So we've got
Ricky: Pats 31-13
Tivo: Eagles 24-16
Father Time: Pats 27-21
Worm: Pats by a TD or two

Where's Beagle and Dr. Marone?

XXIV. Final: Patriots, 33-24. But this writer picked college football winners this season and posted a 105-125 record. So take that pick for what it's worth.

A couple of Philly sportswriters even went with the Pats.

Thanks Snatch. That should put me over the top.

Oh, and good luck to you on your big Super Bowl/Super Whip party tomorrow!

(Hopes no one wonders why a superstar knows about Snatch's schedule)

Oldie gets a shout-out from Jim Litke:

Quote:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — And now for the show-within-the-show.
With apologies to MTV, it's time for ``Pimp My Coach,'' in which Patriots and Eagles players are offered a chance to make over Bill Belichick and Andy Reid, two of the worst-dressed sideline models in the NFL.
Assisting them is Melissa Rivers, who covers the red-carpet arrivals at the Oscars and Grammy Awards ceremonies for the TV Guide Channel.

Quote:
Dhani Jones, a notorious clotheshound and another member of the Philly linebacking corps, thought Reid's biggest problem was lack of a theme.
``He looks like Father Time to me,'' Jones said, ``so I could see him in spats and three-piece suit, definitely a watch pocket on the vest, and maybe driving around in a model-T Ford.''
